As cinemas across the globe gradually reopen, film studios and distributors are gaining more confidence in releasing their latest movies on the big screen, be it local or international titles.

Among the movies lined up for this September are long-awaited ones that have been delayed multiple times due to the pandemic, such as "Mulan", as well as fresh offerings including K-pop group BTS' "Break the Silence: The Movie".

Listed below are the movies releasing in local cinemas this September. (Take note that while these dates remain valid at the time of writing, the current uncertainty surrounding movie releases means that some of the movies below could be rescheduled).

Steel Rain 2: Summit

This Korean action movie directed by Yang Woo-Seok serves as a follow-up to 2017's "Steel Rain". Jung Woo-sung and Kwak Do-Won, who starred in the first movie, returns in the sequel but neither reprise their previous roles, both playing new characters instead. Jung stars as President Han Kyeong-jae, who must prevent war from erupting among the US, North Korea, Japan, and China.

General Release Date: 3 September

Mulan

It's been a roller coaster ride when it comes to "Mulan's" release. There was even a moment when this live-action adaptation was completely pulled off the release schedule. Luckily, Disney decided to release it after all – on Disney+ or in cinemas where the streaming service isn't available. Niki Caro directs a cast made up of Crystal Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Gong Li, Jet Li, Jason Scott Lee and more.

General Release Date: 4 September

Break The Silence: The Movie

While BTS fans (known as ARMY) won't be able to see the group live in concert this year, they can at least take solace in the fact that they will soon see the seven members on the big screen! The fourth BTS concert film "Break The Silence: The Movie" follows the idol group on their "Love Yourself: Speak Yourself" world tour that was held from May to October 2019.
