"Terminator: Genisys" sequel may be terminated

Mourning the sad fate of the "Terminator" franchise?

21 Jan – Unfortunately for Arnold Schwarzenegger, he probably won't be back for any more "Terminator" sequels.

Recent development brought news that Paramount Pictures has dropped the sequel to last year's "Terminator Genisys" from its release schedule.

Initially planned for release on 19 May 2017, the next "Terminator" movie may now never see the light of day. An expected outcome since it didn't have any director or cast attached to it though filming was supposed to already begin this year.

The "Terminator" movie series begun in the '80s and remained a favourite up until its fourth instalment in 2009, though there were already signs of disinterest with the declining gross with each movie.

Hoping to revive the franchise, "Terminator Genisys" was intended to kickstart a new trilogy. However, lacklustre reception at the box office, making only USD440.6 million worldwide against its USD155 million production budget, has probably gotten in the way of that dream.

"Baywatch" is here to save your summer.

Quick to snatch the vacant release date is Dwayne Johnson-starrer, "Baywatch".

Paramount is probably right to think that the movie adaptation of the '90s TV show will garner more interest especially during the summer season, what with its beach-ready stars – including Zac Efron, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera – running around in bright red swimwear (they're playing lifeguards).

Other movies that are also getting a release schedule reshuffle are "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Spiderman" and "Jumanji".

Disney, having moved "Star Wars: Episode VIII" to 15 December 2017, is now giving the 26 May 2017 spot to Johnny Depp-starrer, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales".

Meanwhile Sony has given its new "Spiderman", starring Tom Holland, an earlier release date of 7 July 2017.

The vacated 28 July date is then given to the studio's "Jumanji" remake, a wise move considering that its newly-signed on director Jake Kasdan might not be able to finish the movie on time if it were to remain in its Christmas 2016 slot.
