16 Aug – The titular possessed doll is back in all her braided glory in the new sequel, "Annabelle: Creation", which has created several new records on its opening day in Cambodia.
Released on 11 August in 7 locations with 16 screens, the movie managed to set the record for the biggest opening day of all time for a Warner Bros. title released by Westec Media Limited (WML) with its USD33,680 collection on its release day.
This beats the record previously held by "Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice", which collected USD25,236 on its opening day, and "The Conjuring 2", which collected USD20,336.
Other opening day records it set include the biggest opening day of all time for a horror movie released by WML and the biggest opening day of all time for titles released in August by WML.
The sequel is also the 3rd biggest opening day for all titles released by WML in 2017, behind "Fast and Furious 8" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming", and is the 5th biggest opening day of all time for titles released by WML, behind the aforementioned two as well as "Marvel's the Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Fast and Furious 7".
"Annabelle: Creation" continued to haunt the box office over the weekend, screening in 7 locations with 55 screens and collecting USD115,319.50, making it the biggest opening weekend of all time for WB titles released by WML, biggest opening weekend of all time for horror movies released by WML, and biggest opening weekend of all time for titles released in August by WML.
Falling behind "Fast and Furious 8" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" again, the horror sequel is currently holding the record as the 3rd biggest opening weekend for all titles released by WML in 2017.
Directed by "Lights Out" helmer David F. Sandberg and produced by James Wan ("The Conjuring"), "Annabelle: Creation" acts as a prequel to the first movie, showing how Annabelle the doll really came to be.
