22 Feb - Jimmy Henderson's latest action thriller, "The Prey," has recently been picked up by a UK film distribution company.
Lightbulb Film Distribution has acquired the distribution rights to the film in the UK, according to reports by Deadline.
Representatives from the UK firm said that they are delighted to bring "The Prey", which is touted as the first USD1 million-budgeted Cambodian action movie, to UK audiences later this year.
"As fans of the director's last film, "Jailbreak," we thought we knew what to expect – but Henderson delivers even more intense violence and spectacular martial arts. It's 93 minutes of fast-paced action, which will more than satisfy genre fans," said Lightbulb.
Written and directed by Henderson, the film follows an undercover Chinese cop named Xin (played by five-time national boxing champion Gu Shang Wei), whose secret mission is put in jeopardy when a surprise raid puts him in a remote jungle prison. There, he meets wealthy thrill seekers who are using prisoners as pawns in their high stakes game of human hunting human.
The survival thriller is produced by the same team behind "Jailbreak", which is the country's first homegrown feature film to be acquired by Netflix.
The action sequences are choreographed by stunt performer and "Jailbreak" star, Jean-Paul Ly, who have worked on a number of films including "Lucy" (2014) and "Doctor Strange" (2016).
"The Prey" has yet to open in Cambodian cinemas but it has made its premiere at the 2018 Busan Film Festival and was more recently screened at the 2018 BFI London Film Festival, where it was well received among critics and audience at both events.
