Disney announces new release date for "Black Widow"

24 Mar – After pushing back "Black Widow" release three times, it was revealed that Disney has yet again delayed the Marvel film's release, this time to 9 July.

The movie, which was originally scheduled for May 2020 release, was previously postponed to November with the hopes that the pandemic will be over and movie theatres will open up again by that time. However, it was later delayed again to 7 May 2021, with Disney CEO Bob Chapek admitting that there is no certainty as to whether the movie will get an exclusive theatre run.

Aside from the latest postponement, it was revealed that the upcoming Scarlett Johansson-starrer will also be launched on Disney+ Premier Access, following the likes of other 2020 movies like "Raya and the Last Dragon" and "Mulan".

Another Marvel entry "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings", which was originally scheduled for 9 July, will be released instead on 3 September 2021.

The July release date was actually set for "Shang-Chi"

In the movie, Johansson reprises her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow - former KGB assassin and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. The storyline is set after the events of "Captain America: Civil War", in which Natasha will be heading to Russia to confront her past.

The upcoming movie also co-stars Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour and Ray Winstone among many.

On the other hand, Disney will also launch "Cruella" in theatres and on Disney+ Premier Access on 28 May, while its latest animated feature with Pixar, "Luca" will stream directly through the said platform beginning 18 June.
