Based on the K-141 Kursk submarine disaster that happened in 2000 during a Russian naval exercise in the Barents Sea. An explosion caused the submarine to sink, killing 118 sailors while 23 survived. However, help did not come easily for the survivors as the Russian government refused assistance from foreign governments. Five days after the sinking, and only after their family members battle political obstacles to save them, did the government finally accepted help from the British and Norwegian governments.
